The cowboys from the Irish post hardcore group Uncultivates are in this week’s Meet The Band spotlight. Their debut album is This Will Become Clear Later, Like The French Revolution. Bassist Colonel Goon introduces us to his band.
Give us a brief history of Uncultivates.
Colonel Goon: The Prospector done did write some demos and in a moment of weakness, he showed them to myself and Boot who bullied him into a corner and demanded to be members of this here posse! We recruited Dr. Eli Gravedigger and we’ve been walkin’ the dusty trails of the Irish and UK metal scenes ever since!
Describe the songwriting process for This Will Become Clear Later, Like The French Revolution.
I’ve been fixin’ to decide if it’s because we’re the dumbest fellerz or the smartest fellerz on earth but haven’t been able to, one thing’s for sure though, like everything else in our barn the music comes quick and easy. Writing with this bunch of rodeo clowns is a breeze, lots of trial and error but there ain’t nothin’ we won’t try as long as it sounds both rootin’ and tootin.’
What will be your strongest memory of the recording of the album?
Boot fed me a dog biscuit for layin’ mah bass geetar down real good, nicest he’s ever been to any of us, that’s gotta stick in the memory for sure.
What was the biggest challenge in its creation?
Trying not to goof the rest of mah bass geetar take while chewing a dog biscuit gots to be up there.
How would you characterize its style/sound?
Yeehawrdcore mayhem for fans of life’s dustier trails.
What inspired the album title?
We think The Prospector stole it from somewhere but he can’t read so without frontin’ y’all we’re as confused as the rest of ya. We be believin’ that at some point down the trail it will make itself clear, much like the French revolution they had in the UK all those years ago.
What lyrical topics do you cover?
Eli is a real softie, real in touch with his feelin’s type feller. The main feelin’ he do be feelin’ is annoyance, annoyance at the yellerbellies of the world, the world itself, and even himself sometimes, one thang is for sure he’s never short of things to shout his head off about these days.
How were the video shoots for “Flatley” and “Every Day I Wake Up…”?
It was real nice of Horsebox Records to give us all those millionz of dollars to make our music moviefilms, it allowed us to travel back in time to meet our pal Harambe. Real decent guy. We had some real fine folk help us out across both movie videos and everyone knows a ranch is only as good as its ranch-hands, so we were real lucky to have a group who were willing to get their paws dirty!
What are your goals and expectations for the album?
We’re hoping to spread awareness of our lord and saviour Chelsea, the more barn doors we can burst down with our rodeo hoedowns the better. We ain’t slowin’ down, this album is just us startin’!
What has been your most memorable Uncultivates live show?
The Siege of Limerick had the whole dancehall wranglin’! There were folk stuck out the back by the outhouse cos’ the barn was too packed! To travel all the way from Texas to Ireland and get that kinda welcome? Well I’ll be there just ain’t nothin’ to match it!
What are your upcoming show/tour plans?
Our fancypants agentmen are fixin’ us some shows across Ireland and The UK for our album launch, but that will all become clear later, like the French revolution. Keep yer peepers on our Instagram page and you’ll see all our announcements!
What are some of your non-musical interests and hobbies?
Uncultivates as a unit circle international airspace in our private plane drinkin’ moonshine at all times just in case we’re needed at a rodeo or rodeo adjacent adventure on short notice.
Anything else you’d like to mention or promote?
Just wanna holler a thank y’all to you guys for talkin’ to us and to anyone taking the time to read it! Get your finest cowboy gittup on and check out Uncultivates!
