Frozen Soul – No Place Of Warmth Review

Century Media Records

The third full length from the Texas death metal band Frozen Soul is No Place Of Warmth. They certainly don’t skimp on the guest appearances either, which include Robb Flynn of Machine Head, Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg and oddly enough Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance.

Way appears on the opening title track, which features big man Chad Green’s vocals while the guitars take a slow and methodical approach to the music which eventually gives Way a chance to shriek his vocals into the fray. A solid opener from the same main band members who brought you 2023’s Glacial Domination.

Flynn lends his vocals to “Invoke War” in a way that only he can, his growled and angered sounds match the song’s intensity extremely well. The band doesn’t mind sending a concise middle finger to authoritarianism with “Absolute Zero,” showcasing a stripped down and more hardcore influenced sound. Devin Swank brings his death metal voice to “Dreadnought,” fitting like a glove and still flying high off the positive press from his own band’s 2025 album Hideous Aftermath.

“Ethereal Dreams” continues the band’s calculated attack on the sense with pounding drums before giving way to the excellent transitional track “Skinned By The Wind” with its spoken word intro as the guitars eventually take over. “Deathweaver” is a slow starter which picks up steam with Green being joined by the guitars of Michael Munday and Chris Bonner as well as Matt Denard’s drums and subtle and heavy bass from Samantha Mobley. Before the album is done there had to be another ice themed track to chill out to and “Frost Forged” fits the bill with aplomb. Its glacial pace and overtly heavy riffs more than fits within Frozen Soul’s wheelhouse.

Everything ends with “Killin’ Time (Until It’s Time To Kill)” with its high octane start which is punctuated by slowed and fast sections likely indicating the bloodthirst must be quenched. Frozen Soul have again delivered a quality death metal record with some notable amounts of variety and guests to keep you satisfied on repeat. For being one of the most consistent bands in modern death metal, No Place Of Warmth does a great job of not leaving the their fans out in the cold.
